The Right Environment

Learning occurs everywhere, at all times. SWA promotes an approach to learning that replicates this. An essential requirement for learning to take place, is a desire and interest by the learner to learn, and a supportive caring environment to learn in with access to extensive resources and expertise.

SWA teachers are recruited based on their knowledge, skills, experiences and their commitment to be learner centered. Whilst a talented teacher can facilitate learning almost anywhere, a ‘learning friendly’ physical environment can do much to support learning.

SWA has worked with leading education architects to design a ‘school as a learning community’ and create an exemplary learning environment – incorporating design influences which bring student and teacher in close proximity at all times and with an emphasis on comfort, natural light, relationships between the built and natural environment and interaction between people.

This includes a range of learning spaces including whole class, presentation, small group and individual work as well as studios for specialist subjects such as The Arts, Science and Technology and the Library/Media Centers. These areas support structured teaching, project-based inquiries, tutorials and independent work.

The SWA campus is spacious with buildings organized to support the concept of age appropriate learning centers supplemented by specialist facilities, sporting facilities and public spaces set in beautifully landscaped gardens.

The interiors of each building are carefully planned to provide an environment that is conducive to learning, excites enquiry and enriches each individual’s aesthetic appreciation.
