The renaissance was one of the most significant periods of western civilization. It followed the medieval or middle ages, the 1000 decline of civilization after the Roman period.

The Renaissance or ‘re birth’ was a period marked by free thinking, with a surge in the arts, marked an age of exploration and inventions and led to discoveries in science. Many of these drew on other civilizations such as the developments mathematics by the Arab and Indian civilizations.

Many great individuals emerged at this time who became leaders in all areas of endeavor - as artists, scientists, astronomers, doctors and inventors.

These innovators created art that still inspires and influences people today, led to understandings that laid the foundation for our modern western, world civilization and brought about the age of science and discovery, much of which was banned prior to the Renaissance.

One of the great individuals of this time was Leonardo da Vinci an Italian who is often referred to as a Renaissance or universal man because he was a prolific inventor, polymath and expert in many areas, including scientific, artistic and creative thought.

We have named our new Art Science and Technology Center after this 15th century master in honour of this significant movement that created a surge in human inventiveness.

It was this period that laid the foundation for the scientific age that led to the industrial revolution in the 19th century and technological advances of the 20th century. This evolution of human knowledge has brought us tothe current Knowledge and Digital Ages - which has become the most significant change to ever impact on civilization.

Join us as we travel back into history to experience life in Medieval Europe and gain an appreciation of this time and how it has impacted life today!
