We send our warmest congratulations to 11 of the SWA student participants who travelled to Singapore last week to take part in the 7th International Biomedical Quiz 2018 hosted by the Anglo-Chinese Junior College’s Science and Mathematics Council (ACJC SMC) and in collaboration with the Singapore Medical Association and Academy of Medicine. The event was an international competition that students spent some time preparing for, both after school and at home. Participants were judged based on a university-level of understanding of selected topics in the Geriatric Medicine which includes the physiological processes of ageing as well as various aspects of care involved in the multi-faceted nature of geriatric medicine, and the common clinical conditions associated with ageing.
Our SWA student participants were very successful with
2 Gold Medals awarded to Arjun Nagarajan, Enrico Suliarta
4 Silver Medals awarded to Victoria Emily Gandakusuma, Vanessa Lunardi, Janice Chen, and Stephanie Gunawan
5 Bronze Medals awarded to Kim Ye Eun, Audrey Madeleine Gandakusuma, Hendry Jonathan, Park Hyun Seo, and Edward Louis Natanael
Student participants should be very proud of their accomplishments in this event as it was very challenging and required a great deal of training and learning outside of the classroom. As teachers, we are exceptionally pleased with the results and are very proud of all participants who demonstrated courage, commitment and willingness to go above and beyond what is expected of them in the classroom. Some of the most important learning taking place in these types of competitions is helping students discover that they do have the ability to overcome large challenges and helping them figure out how to do so in a practical setting. Family, friends and teachers please take a moment to congratulate them and recognise their achievement in this highly competitive international competition.
