WORLD SCHOLARS CUP 2017: GLOBAL ROUNDS HANOI & ATHENS

22 MEDALS AND HONOR MEDALS

SWA students Kelly Chandra Lie (Grade 10), Vijjasena Sugiono (Grade 10), and Tristan Loa (Grade 10) went to Hanoi, Vietnam for World Scholar’s Cup Global Round last June. They received a total of 22 medals and honor medals. They also placed 60th overall in the competition (Champion Team) and were the 4th best performing team in Indonesia. Vijjasena also placed 47th as a Champion Scholar in the Junior Division and was the third best performing Indonesian student, reaching the top 1% of competitors from Indonesia. The Hanoi Global Round was participated by 3,600 students from nearly 40 countries around the world but with the more than half of competing schools coming from Indonesia.

On the other hand, SWA Senior Team that includes Kirana Wanandi (Grade 10), Hyun Seo Park (Grade 10), and Eriq Moeloek (Grade 10) went to Athens, Greece for another Global Round. They were awarded Top 9 Debate Team, meaning they were in the top 3% of the Debate category, which was the main event of the competition. The team received a total of 22 medals, honor medals and a trophy. They placed 13th as Best Regional Team, which places them in the top 4% of the event. The Athens Global Round was participated by 1,500 students from over 320 schools (9 from Indonesia) from 42 countries.

Both teams have successfully qualified to the Tournament of Champions at Yale University this November 2017.
