University Guidance Counsellor
Position Overview:
Sinarmas World Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced University Guidance Counselor (UGC) to join our team. Reporting directly to the Principal, the ideal candidate will have a strong background in university counseling, academic advising, and career planning. The UGC will work closely with students from Grade 9 to Grade 12, guiding them through international university application processes while also coordinating SAT testing, career guidance, university visits, and parent and teacher workshops.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Advising
- Student Guidance: Provide comprehensive advice and assistance in academic and career decision-making for students in Grades 9-12.
- Educational Planning: Assist students in developing personalized educational plans and tracking their progress toward post-secondary goals.
- Course Selection: Advise on selecting appropriate IGCSE and IB DP courses that align with university and career aspirations.
- Interest Exploration: Support students in exploring interests and identifying potential career paths.
University Guidance Counseling
- Application Support: Offer personalized support throughout the university application process for destinations including the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, Singapore, Korea, China, and Taiwan.
- Admissions Expertise: Provide guidance on university admissions processes, application requirements, and help students identify institutions that are the best fit.
- Digital Tools: Assist with university applications via platforms such as BridgeU and UCAS.
- Financial Guidance: Support students with scholarship applications, financial aid processes, student visa requirements, and credit transfer issues.
Career Counseling
- Career Guidance: Provide practical advice on career options and assist students with career exploration and planning.
- Skills Training: Help student with resume and cover letter writing as well as interview coaching.
- Internships: Help students search forinternships and real-world experiences.
- Career Assessments: Administer assessments to help students understand their strengths and align them with suitable majors or career paths.
Testing & SAT Coordination
- Testing Oversight: Serve as the SAT Coordinator and oversee the administration of PSAT’s and SAT’s.Offer guidance on other testing such as the ACT, TOEFL, IELTS, and other country-specific/course-specific exams (e.g., UKCAT, BMAT, ISAT, Test-Das).
- Preparation Guidance: Advise students on appropriate testing timelines and preparation strategies.
Individual Guidance and Counseling
- Personal Advising: Develop strong personal advising relationships with high school students, offering tailored guidance on universities, campus visits, application procedures, financial aid options, and career planning.
- Interview Preparation: Arrange mock interviews and prepare students for university interviews.
Group Guidance for Students, Parents, and Staff
- Information Sessions: Organize group sessions for students, parents, and staff to share insights on university systems worldwide, application processes, scholarship opportunities, etc.
- Workshops: Lead workshops on personal statement and college essay writing, recommendatio letters, the university applciaiton process, etc.
Administration and Communication
- Process Management: Oversee university application tracking, manage supporting documentation, and follow up with university representatives.
- Communication: Produce and distribute regular communications to keep students, parents, and staff updated on university-related events, deadlines, and opportunities.
- Data Analysis: Contribute to the collection and analysis of university application data to continuously improve the guidance process.
University and External Relationships
- Liaison Role: Build and maintain relationships with university representatives and external educational organizations.
- Conduct University Fairs
- Event Coordination: Host university visits and information sessions, ensuring students have access to first-hand admissions insights
Person Specification:
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s (required) and Master’s (desired) degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum two years of experience as a University Guidance Counselor, College Counselor, University Admissions Counselor, or a similar educational administrative role. Prior experience in an international school setting is preferred.
- Student Engagement: Ability to engage with students and inspire enthusiasm for learning and higher education, as well as motivation towards reaching goals.
- Professional Development: Commitment to participate in ongoing professional development as required
- Multicultural Sensitivity: Eagerness to work within a multicultural environment with flexibility, a collaborative approach, and high energy.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work with various stakeholders, including heads of academic departments, Leadership team, Board of Directors, parents, counselors, admissions personnel, and external tertiary institutions.
- Willing to work in BSD (40 minutes from Jakarta CBD)
