Program Sekolah Menengah Pertama
Sciences

With inquiry at the core, the MYP sciences framework aims to guide students to independently and collaboratively investigate issues through research, observation and experimentation. The MYP sciences curriculum explores the connections between science and everyday life. SWA teaches MYP sciences as an integrated course in Grades 6, 7 & 8, and as discrete science disciplines in Grades 9 & 10.
To evaluate learning, acquired scientific knowledge and enquiry skills are assessed externally using the CAIE Checkpoint Examinations at the end of Grade 8
Design (Computing)

The digital design or computing course uses the design cycle to solve problems through the use of a computer system. The study of digital design equips students to create computer generated digital products/solutions to solve problem and meet perceived needs. Middle School students learn how computers and computer systems work, how they are designed and programmed, how to apply computational thinking, and how to make best use of information technology. Computing brings new challenges and opportunities that should excite and empower students.
Individuals & Societies

MYP individuals and societies encourages learners to respect and understand the world around them and equips them with the necessary skills to inquire into historical, contemporary, geographical, political, social, economic, religious, technological and cultural factors that have an impact on individuals, societies and environments. The integrated approach adopted in this subject prepares students for the IGCSE subject options provided in the final two years of the MYP.
Mathematics

Mathematics plays an essential role both within the school and in society. It promotes a powerful universal language, analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills that contribute to the development of logical, abstract and critical thinking. Moreover, understanding and being able to use mathematics with confidence is not only an advantage in school but also a skill for problem solving and decision-making in everyday life.
To evaluate learning, competency in algebra, geometry and measure, handling data and number is assessed externally using the CAIE Checkpoint Examinations at the end of Grade 8.
Framework for mathematics
MYP mathematics provides a framework of concepts and skills organized into four branches of mathematics.

SWA ensures that the mathematics curriculum allows all students the opportunity to reach their full potential and achieve the final aims and objectives of MYP mathematics. In order to achieve this, the concepts and skills of the framework for mathematics are organized so that students can work at different levels of ability.
Language and Literature

To support first language development and embrace Asian culture, the school offers language courses in Indonesian, Mandarin and Korean. In other MYP disciplines, English is used as the language of communication.
MYP students normally take 3 different language courses. Occasionally, students needing support in English may be required to attend English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes instead of following a third language course. All MYP students will need to take at least one Language & literature course, but it is possible for bilingual or trilingual students to take more.
To evaluate learning, the acquired reading, writing, listening and speaking skills are assessed externally using the CAIE Checkpoint Examinations at the end of Grade 8.
