Timbre

Timbre

Timbre is a “home” for students who enjoy to play music. It is a student-led CAS project that builds confidence, creativity and teamwork in various musical projects.Timbre has changed our school’s lunchtime atmosphere by holding a lunch acoustic session every week. This year, Timbre started to provide free music workshops monthly to give everyone within the school community a chance to enhance their musical knowledge and skills. Timbre has also given a positive contribution to the society around the area by initiating and organising the Charity Winter Concert 2017 independently where we entertain orphan kids from Tunas Mahardika Orphanage and give them supplies such as foods and toys that has been collected from the school community.

Strings Club

Strings Club

This year our strings club has developed into a combination between western and asian strings music. Adding some chinese traditional string instruments such as guzheng and ruan to our group to give a touch of Asian music and make our strings music more colourful. As a group of chordophone instruments, we explore and combine western and asian music both modern and classical to create musical harmonies. We performed a classical chinese music piece with the formation of trio violin, “guzheng” and “ruan” during the Spring Festival. We also performed a scoring music from Alice in Wonderland and Beauty & The Beast in the strings trio format combining with the angklung ensemble during Halloween Day and regularly contribute  to the Lunchtime Acoustic sessions every semester. Now we are planning to enhance our group with viola and cello to create a better strings ensemble in the future.

HS Band

HS Band

The band has always been a place to explore and extend our creativity. All our members are striving to do what they do best to create harmony, to create the best and the most distinct interpretation of a song. Our hard work during the course of this year has allowed us to perform in various events such as SWA’s “The Celestial”, Timbre’s “Apricity”, and our very own Personal Project event “The Resilience”. In each and every performance we try to transform our band to become better and do things that are distinct to the sound of our band in order to reach our ultimate purpose.

MS Band

MS Band

We always enjoy our band time. We love creating covers of songs and presenting them in our own unique way. We have learnt a lot about how to collaborate and share musical ideas. We have developed our communication and critical thinking skills when determining what song to perform and sometimes we need to arrange a schedule for extra practices. Communication is very important because everyone needs to be heard and we value different opinions especially when we make our own arrangement. We realise that unity and inclusiveness is very important to create a successful performance involving several people. This year, we had many wonderful opportunities to perform in various school events such as the SWA Cup Opening Ceremony. We also contributed to the Timbre Lunchtime Acoustic Programme each semester.

Ensemble

Ensemble

We have always made Ensemble an enjoyable activity by playing with our utmost passion. It is a home for anybody who likes to play different kinds of instruments, bond together and have fun with others while still developing important music educational skills. This year, we’ve been learning new instruments that we never tried playing before. Even though we only have very limited time to practice, our group has managed to accomplish some successful performances during the Lunchtime Acoustic and Poetry Slam (STUCO Event). We believe that the Ensemble group will always be a strong team and accomplish much more in the future.
